Professional relationships with sales teams, marketing, exclusive clientele, and even employees, must be nurtured and maintained daily to achieve these goal. Finding effective ways of maximizing ROI to encourage the growth and profitability of these dynamics requires creative resource management and imaginative policies.

The Masters - History of the Legendary Green Jacket

There are few articles of clothing more iconic, more synonymous with golf excellence, or more prestigious than the Legendary Green Jacket awarded each year to the winner of world-renowned US Masters Golf tournament.

The tradition of this celebrated & renowned "wearable" trophy is as rich and as fabled as the jacket itself.

Originally inspired by coats worn by the Royal Liverpool club members to indicate their rank and status; golf champion & co-founder of the Augusta National Golf Club Bobby Jones saw this and brought the idea to co-founder & Chairman Clifford Roberts. Liking the idea, usage of the jackets was implemented in 1937 as a means by which to distinguish the Augusta National club members from the event attendees.

The idea was to provide an easily recognizable way for the public to locate assistance when needed.

The first green jacket was not presented to the winner until 1949 when Sam Snead triumphed and subsequently it was then retroactively awarded to previous winners and has remained a right of passage ever since. Only to be adorned by either members of Augusta National or winners of the Masters.

A simple 3-button, single-breasted, central-single vented, tropical-weighted wool blazer, gleaming brass buttons featuring PGA golf logo and the Masters patch on the breast-pcket; this elegant jacket is potentially the most famous articles of golf attire in the world.

The earliest jackets were manufactured by Brooks Uniform Company in New York. Then in 1967 (following complaints from club members that the jackets were too heavy and warm to wear under the Georgia sun) tailoring of the garments were taken over by Hamilton Tailoring Co. of Cincinnati.

The material, a hue of rye green originally named Pantone 342 and later dubbed “Masters Green", is now produced in Dublin by Forstmann Co. mill in central Georgia.

The proud antiquity of this seminal embodiment of golf greatness is presented annually to the shoulders by the prior years winner of the Masters to the newest member of this exclusive brotherhood.

The current winner of the Masters is the only person permitted to remove his jacket from club grounds and is only allowed to do so for the year following their victory, after which the coat is to be returned and only worn on club grounds.

A few have spotted recent Tournament winners sporting thier jacket prior to leaving Augusta in moments such as the 2018 Masters winner Patrick Reed at in the Chick-fil-a drive through, or perhaps catching 2010 winner Phil Mickelson in the Krispy Kreme drive through post win.  Odds are you'll likely never see one of these venerable pieces of golf preeminence out in public.

But the easiest opportunity for you to see one of these legendary green jackets up close and personal is to attend the Masters yourself.  Allow Major Sports Augusta to get you there!

The best way to visit the Masters is with the help of a trusted travel provider. Just as the green jacket is the gold standard of golf prestige, Major Sports Augusta is the gold standard of sport event travel providers.
